If 19 more than 2 times a number is 23, what is the number?

2 is the unknown number.

Let x be the unknown number.

2x + 19 = 23
2x = 23 - 19
2x = 4
2x/2 = 4/2
x = 2

to check:
2(2) + 19 = 23
4 + 19 = 23
23 = 23
