Hello there!

5x + 3x = 2(4x - 5)

Start with the distributive form

5x + 3x = (2)(4x) + (2)(-5) - 2

8x = 8x - 10 - 2

8x = 8x - 12

8x - 8x = -12

0 = -12

I really hope the steps are easy to understand and well explained.

As always, it is my pleasure to help people like you!
