It is very important to wash the cupric hydroxide intermediate in the synthesis of cupric acetate because most copper hydroxide can slowly turn from blue to black due to the formation of copper(II) oxide. If you do not wash the cupric hydroxide then the precipitate will be very difficult to filter out the solution.
