The area of the shaded region:
A = r ² π - a²
where: r = d/2 = 7√2 / 2
A = ( 7√2 / 2 )² · 22/7 - 7²
A = 49 · 2 / 4 · 22/7 - 49
A = 49/2 · 22/7 - 49
A = 7 · 11 - 49
A = 77 - 49
Answer: A (shaded) = 28
