If you belonged to a guild and lived in a cathedral town, it was a solid life. You were patronized and subsidized by a church, the guild provided help and aid. Things were nice. The artisan in the medieval era had it easier than they would in the early modern era, where the nascent middle-classes crushed, bought church property and broke up the power of guilds.
