The catholic church was exploiting civilians and Martin Luther saw this and retaliated with the 95 theses which disputed the churches power and authority. The printing press was gaining headway and soon after it was written all of Europe had their hands on martin Luthers works which helped the people to think for themselves and THAT is how the reformation started
