A glicoprotein consists on a protein attached to a short carbohydrate (an oligosaccharide), whereas a glycolipid consists on a lipid attached to a short carbohydrate. An example of glycoiproteins is the immunoglobulin, which are antibodies (immune system). Some glycolipids are also related to immune response.
